Notes:
[Additional context or considerations]When to use this template
- Weekly status email to your manager or stakeholders. Same structure each Friday: this week, next week, blockers, risks.
- Daily standup summary if you're remote and your team uses async standups instead of meetings.
- Monthly project rollup combining several weeks of progress into a higher-level read for execs.
Customize for your workflow
- Lead with risks and blockers. Status updates that bury problems get skimmed; ones that surface them invite help.
- Include numbers when you can. 'Completed 8 of 12 stories' beats 'Made good progress'.
Common questions
How long should a status update be?
Under a screen of content. Five-line bullets per section, max. Anyone who needs more detail can ask.
Should the same update go to manager and execs?
No. Manager gets the detail; execs get the summary. Pasting the manager update into an exec email creates noise.
