Clips

Clips is the second tab. Press 2. It fills from two places.

In this section

  • What you copy on web pages

Copy text, a link or a color on any page and it lands in Clips on its own, through the extension's presence on the page. The last 20 are kept, in this browser only; pin a clip to keep it past that. A page that was already open when you installed TypeFire does not have the extension in it until you reload the page. Pictures are not captured this way; those come from the Mac. To keep a clip for good, open its menu and choose Save as snippet : it gets an abbreviation and works on every page.

  • Where copies are recorded

Settings, Clips has two site lists, the same shape as the expansion lists under Settings, Snippets. Never on these sites leaves those hosts and everything under them alone, so what you copy in your bank or your mail stays out of Clips. Only on these sites does the opposite: once it has anything in it, copies are recorded nowhere else. Type a site as you would read it in the address bar; example.com covers mail.example.com too. Passwords are never recorded, whatever the lists say.

  • Your Mac's clips

If you also run TypeFire for Mac with clip sync on, the Mac writes its synced clips to a TypeFire folder in your cloud drive. Connect that folder (from the Clips welcome screen, or Settings, Clips) and the Mac's clips show up here too, pictures included, read only. A clip from the Mac carries a small cloud beside its source in the list and on its card, and the Filter menu's Source row shows only this browser's clips or only the Mac's.

  • Turning clips off

If clips are not for you, the welcome screen and Settings, Clips both have the switch. Off removes the Clips tab and stops keeping copies; Settings, Clips turns it back on. The status line under the switch says which of the three states you are in: off, on with this browser's copies only, or on and connected to the Mac's folder.
