Getting around

TypeFire lives in three places in the browser: the app in a tab, the Spotlight over any page, and the text field you are typing in.

In this section

  • The app in a tab

Click the TypeFire icon in the toolbar (pin it from the puzzle-piece menu if it is hidden) and the app opens in its own tab, as a window on a soft canvas. The button at the top right of that window switches to Fill the tab , which uses the whole tab; the choice is kept, and a tab narrower than about 1000 pixels always fills. The three worlds are the tabs at the top left, and 1 , 2 and 3 switch between them from anywhere in the app. Settings, the graph, the theme and the help menu sit at the foot of the sidebar.

  • Shortcuts

Every key TypeFire answers to is listed under the help menu, Shortcuts . The Spotlight's keys belong to the browser: the All tab starts as Ctrl + Shift + T on a Mac and Ctrl + Shift + E elsewhere, the three world tabs start with no key, and all four are yours to set on Chrome's extension shortcuts page (the Edit button on the Shortcuts card takes you there). Inside the app, ⌘ F searches the world you are in and ⌘ ⌫ deletes what is selected.

  • Appearance and language

Settings → Appearance has light, dark or follow the system, and a second choice of surface : Standard, Dim (soft graphite), Warm (parchment and sepia) or Cool (blue-gray and slate), which recolors the window and the canvas behind it. The sun-and-moon button at the foot of the sidebar switches mode without opening Settings. TypeFire speaks eight languages and picks yours from the browser; Settings → General changes it. This guide is in English.

  • With the Mac app

Same sign-in, same Pro, same snippet format, and three different relationships to what the Mac keeps in iCloud, because a browser cannot sync on its own:
