The Spotlight

One overlay, four tabs: All, Snippets, Clips and Notes, each with its own shortcut. Press ⌘⌃1 from any app for the snippet tab.

• Type to search by title, abbreviation or body. Every box takes the search operators.
• Enter pastes the selected result into the app you came from.
• Esc dismisses, and so does a click on the desktop beside the panel.
• The pill above the panel switches tabs; the app mark beside it opens the main window.

The All tab

Spotlight has four tabs now, and All is the first of them. Press ⌘⌃\ from anywhere to land straight on it.

One search box, every surface. Snippets, clips and notes come back in a single list ordered by how well each one matches what you typed, not by what kind of thing it is: the best answer wins whether it is a snippet you fire daily or a screenshot from last month.

• A title match beats a match buried in a body, and an exact abbreviation goes straight to the top, because typing one means you already know what you want.
• Something you touched today gets a small nudge, and a snippet you use constantly gets another. Both are capped, so neither can lift a weak match over a strong one.
• Text inside your screenshots is searched, so an image is findable by what it says.

The list is on the left and a preview on the right. Select any result and read it properly before you commit to it, and select text in that preview to copy straight out of Spotlight.

The hint at the bottom of the window changes with whatever is selected, so the key always tells you what it will do before you press it.

Click a screenshot in the preview to open that clip in the main window with its full detail panel.

Prefer to see everything at once? The toggle in the bottom right switches to a grid, which is worth it the moment your search turns up images.

Your search follows you between tabs

Type something in one tab, click another, and the search comes with you. The type tabs are how you narrow: search in All, then jump to Notes to see only the notes, without typing a thing twice.

Summoning a tab with its own hotkey always starts fresh. Switching continues what you were doing; a hotkey begins something new.
