AI apps (MCP)
Claude, Cursor, Codex, LM Studio and other AI apps on your Mac can search, read and save your notes and snippets in TypeFire. They connect through MCP, the standard way AI apps reach other apps' data, and the connection never leaves your Mac.

- What it is
You keep your notes in TypeFire. With AI apps connected, you can ask Claude to "save this plan to my Work vault", ask Cursor what you decided about the database last week, or have a chat app turn a conversation into a meeting note with the right tags. The AI does it in your files, as Markdown, exactly as if you had written it yourself.
- Connecting an AI app
Open Settings → AI apps (MCP) . Under Connect your AI apps you'll see the ones installed on this Mac: Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, LM Studio, Codex and Windsurf. Click Connect beside one.
- What AI apps can do
Connected AI apps can search, read, create and organize your notes and snippets, and your clipboard history if you allow it.
- Free and Pro for AI apps
Searching and reading are free. Creating, editing, moving and deleting from an AI app need Pro or the free trial. Copying a clip back to the clipboard is free. On a free plan, the AI app gets a plain sentence it can pass on to you, and nothing is changed.
- Turning it off, or read only
You decide what AI apps can reach in TypeFire, world by world, and you can turn them off or make them read only at any time.
- Clipboard history is off at first
What you copy can include passwords, codes and private messages, so AI apps can't see your clipboard history until you turn on Clipboard history in Settings → AI apps (MCP). Clips itself has to be on too.
- Privacy
AI apps reach TypeFire through a private connection that only your macOS user account can open. Nothing listens on the network, so no website or other computer can reach it. Nothing goes through TypeF
- Make TypeFire your agent's notebook
Coding agents like Claude Code and Cursor write plans and notes all day, usually as loose files in the project folder. If you'd rather keep them in your vault, where you can find them later, tell the agent once. Settings → AI apps (MCP) → Make TypeFire your agent's notebook has a line for each vault. Copy it into the project's CLAUDE.md , AGENTS.md or Cursor rules:
- When it doesn't work
TypeFire shows as failed (red) in the AI app. Check Let AI apps on this Mac use TypeFire in Settings → AI apps (MCP). The AI app's MCP log has the reason. If you just connected Claude or Codex, quit a
