The left rail groups tabs into APP (General, Appearance, Shortcuts, AI, iCloud, Weave), WORLDS (Snippets, Clips, Notes) and ACCOUNT (Plan, Advanced, Feedback, plus Pro for FREE while you are on the free plan). Expansion settings live inside the Snippets tab.

General

Vault location · Menu bar icon, and which search it opens · Hide dock icon · Launch at startup · Accessibility status · Default Markdown editor.

Menu bar icon opens picks which of the four searches a click on the icon brings up: Snippets, Clips, Notes or Search everything. The keyboard shortcuts keep their own meaning. If the world you chose is switched off, the icon opens Snippets.

Hide dock icon keeps TypeFire out of the Dock but temporarily brings the icon back while a Markdown editor window is open, so you can Tab to it.

Vault location is the folder your snippets live in, one Markdown file each. Point it at a folder of its own. If you choose one that already contains Markdown TypeFire did not write, it says so and names a few of the files first: those documents would show up in your snippet list. They are never modified by being listed, and nothing is rewritten unless you edit and save that particular snippet.

Appearance

UI font, and two theme settings that work independently. Appearance is System (follows macOS), Light or Dark. Surface is the palette they use: Standard, Warm (parchment and sepia) or Cool (blue-gray and slate). The sun/moon icon in the bottom bar opens a menu with both, so you can change either without opening Settings.

Show snippet type icons puts a small glyph on every row in the snippet list so you can tell at a glance what each one does: a keyboard for a Text Expansion, a spark for a Selection Prompt, a bolt for a Chain. On by default. Turning it off gives the list back a little width.

Shortcuts

Shortcut Default Opens

The Snippets tab

Spotlight action decides what choosing a snippet in the Spotlight does: paste its body, or paste the path of its file. Below it, the expansion settings:

Master on/off · expansion mode (delimiter key or instant) · which delimiters · restore clipboard after paste · sound on expansion · default case sensitivity · Expand in, an allowlist or blocklist of apps.

Instant expansion fires the moment the abbreviation is complete instead of waiting for a delimiter. Extra backspace fixes first-word-of-sentence expansion in Google Docs and similar canvas editors.

The Clips tab

Enable Clips · what a click does in the Spotlight (insert where you are, or open in TypeFire) · Quick Paste shortcut · capture images on or off, and whether screenshots saved as files are added too · watched folders · Never capture from, a per-app blocklist · sensitive-content detection and its expiry window · retention mode · delete-all actions.

The Notes tab

Where your vault is, and the vaults you have connected · the daily notes folder and its date format · the default collection · what the editor shows: formatting, line numbers, the outline · the writing switches: expand snippets in a note, line numbers inside code blocks, wrap long code lines · how many lines the list previews · full-text search · note icons.

Plan

Your account, your current tier, and everything you can do with a purchase: check the license, deactivate it so you can move it to another Mac, restore a purchase, and, once a trial has ended, hide locked snippets from the list.

Advanced

Clear vault (permanent) · Clear iCloud vault · Reset app.

Permissions

TypeFire needs Accessibility to detect abbreviations, register global shortcuts and inject text. This updates live: switch it on in System Settings and TypeFire notices immediately, no restart.

Everything happens locally. TypeFire never records, stores or transmits your keystrokes. Revoke any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
