What AI apps can do
Connected AI apps can search, read, create and organize your notes and snippets, and your clipboard history if you allow it.
Notes, in every vault, not only the one you have open:
- search with the same search operators you type yourself: words,
"phrases",tag:,in:,is:,after:andbefore:,[property], and-to leave something out - search by meaning when Weave is on, so "that note about pricing worries" finds the one that says "costs". When a search of plain words finds nothing, they try meaning on their own.
- list a vault or a folder, newest first, or only what changed in a date range or has a property, like everything changed in the last week or every note with
status: draft - read the note you have open in TypeFire, so "summarize this note" or "turn this into tasks" just works
- read a note, or just the section under one heading
- see a note's links and backlinks
- create a note with tags and properties
- edit one: change exact words (find and replace, so a small fix doesn't rewrite the note), add to the end or the top, add under a heading, rewrite a section, set properties, add or remove tags
- rename or move a note, with links to it updated as when you do it yourself
- add to today's daily note
- delete notes, which go to the Trash
Snippets: search, list, read, and create or edit any type, including Selection Prompts and chains. An abbreviation that's already taken is refused.
Clips, once you turn them on: search your clipboard history, including text inside screenshots, read one, or put one back on the clipboard for you to paste.
TypeFire itself: an AI app can bring TypeFire forward with a note open, as a tab or in its own window, or show you a snippet or a clip. Ask it to "open that in TypeFire" after it writes something. A note it edits while it's open in a temporary tab becomes a kept tab, the same as when you type in it, so the next note it opens lands beside it.
AI apps are asked to keep you in the loop: when a search or a list finds several notes, they show them as a short numbered list (or as choices to click, in apps that have them) so you can pick one to read or open. After saving something, they offer to open it in TypeFire.
Two things they can't do: type or paste into other apps, and expand a snippet for you.
An AI app can't overwrite a change you just made. It has to tell TypeFire when it last read the note, and if you've changed the note since, the edit is refused and the AI reads it again. If you have the note open while an AI app edits it, the open note follows. More than 20 deletes in a minute are refused, and the AI is told to check with you first.
